Remember that everyone you see is there for the same reason.. to meet new busy single people like yourself. Feeling nervous and excited is normal, but as the evening progresses, you’ll begin to relax and and your true self will shine though! After a few drinks, a few interesting “dates”, you’ll be wishing there was more time. The following tips may seem obvious, but using even a few will improve your odds of finding an ideal partner.
Arrive on time or 15 minutes before the start time. It allows you to get comfortable in the surroundings and make friends with other early arrivals.
Dress to impress. First impressions are long lasting and you only get one shot. Make sure you are well groomed, upbeat, positive and that you maintain a dialogue (ask questions). Dress Code: Causal for outdoor activities and smart/semi-formal (jackets for men) for dinner meetings.
Don’t drink too much before the meet; keep alert and witty.
Take the initiative; make the first move (yes, both men AND women)! It’s ALWAYS good to ask questions about their life and passions. Making the first move will show your interest and improve your chances considerably! Good things come to those who go after it.
Make and KEEP good eyecontact; never forget that a smile goes a long way. For those few fleeting minutes, make your date feel special.. as though he/she is the only one in the room.
Turn your mobile phone off. The ring tone is not only distracting, but taking calls in the middle of a date is very impolite.
Avoid small talk and “pick-up” lines like ‘You sound nice, lets meet up?’ Tell them more about yourself, your hobbies, interests, or a funny story, make yourself sound interesting and make your conversations concise, light and humorous.
Take down notes on the first impressions of your date. Jot down specifics (job, school, favorite pastime) to remember each person you meet. You will be meeting 10-15 dates and this will help you make clear choices.
Be friendly and polite to all the participants. If you are running a blank on topics, see our recommendations for possible questions.
Don’t ask for the personal details at the first meeting. It may scare some people away. If there is a mutual match, the promoter will send you his/her contact details.
Relax and have fun with everyone. At the end of the day, its just a party! And you never know, you may unexpectedly end up making great friends.
